AXP008 - There's
nothing quite like this EP that cross-pollinates entire eras,
time signatures and genres.

Brasswork Agency | Inspired by Dmitre Shostakovich
In loving memory of Mstislav Rostropovich, who passed away at
age 80 in April 2007. Rostropovich played over 240 world premieres
during his life. He was a huge Human Rights advocate, earning
himself exile in France from the Soviet Union for his activist
work, only to return home to Russia months before his death.
Small samples are taken from a very special recording of Shostakovich's
Cello Concerto No. 1. This recording is of the very first U.S.
performance of Mstislav Rostropovich, one of the best Cellists
of our time, and whom the piece was originally written for. The
samples are effected and expounded upon, creating these new original
pieces that carefully blend electronic music with classical music.
Originally this new "re-work" was created for an orchestra
based in Chicago, whose intention was to remove all sampled parts,
and actually perform them. This was attempted only once in October
2005 with New Millennium Orchestra, who contracted Brasswork Agency
to do the rework. Unimpressed by the efforts of the orchestra,
Brasswork Agency has moved past these pieces and given them to
Auxprocess in their full digital form for online publication.
Original pieces by Dmitri Shostakovich. Cello performance samples
performed by Mstislav Rostropovich. All tracks produced by Brasswork
Agency.
